Assistance with field operations and visitor experience at the Farm at Hokuala to achieve best-in-class production of produce and fruit as well as service, amenities and activities that meet the needs of homeowners and non-resident members and guests of Hokuala including Timbers Kauai.


Essential functions as defined are ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents within this classification.  Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Farm Production: Ensure the highest level quality production of organic fruits and vegetables using traditional organic growing methods. Monitor any consumption of produce and fruit by endangered species which are on property and report to farm manager and wildlife technicians. Inform the farm manager if there are any natural or unnatural risks to successful crop production, such as insect damage, diseases or lack of irrigation.
  • Harvesting and Delivery: Assist with crop harvest, processing and delivery. Ensure that all the produce that comes off the farm is of highest quality and pre-rinsed at least once. Inform chefs, Timbers Resorts owners and guests that all produce must be washed in a certified certification kitchen as the Farm at Hokuala only offers raw produce.
  • Volunteer Management and Ohana Harvests: Coach community volunteers and Timbers Resorts owners and guests how to help in the garden, when asked to help, and also show them what’s available to harvest, how to harvest and assist them with harvesting and rinsing of produce. Offer fresh coconut water and tastings of fruit, when in season, to owners and guests that visit the farm.
  • Tropical Farm Tours: Lead 1-hour farm tours when scheduled by the activities desk that includes a walk-around of the farm, a talk about the history and sustainable pursuits of the farm, as well as a tree planting, hands-on activities, tasting of fruits and vegetables in season, as well as a harvest of produce for the family to take home.
  • Pop-up Farm Tours: Be ready to give a condensed tour at any moment to unexpected Timbers Resorts owner or guest. The tour should include, at the very least, an opportunity to harvest produce and a short talk about the Farm at Hokuala.
  • Nursery Care: Irrigate the nursery on a daily basis and inform the farm manager if there are any signs of plant stress; overheating, lack of water, bird and mice damage, etc.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and/or skill required.

  • Farmhand experience: weeding, transplanting, irrigating, direct sowing seeds, tree planting, fruit tree pruning and hedging, harvesting of fruits and vegetables, post-harvest processing of fruits and vegetables, and a basic understanding of how to use hand farm tools.
  • Available to work holidays, weekends and evenings, and adjust work schedule to weather events and climatic conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate regularly works in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to fumes, humidity and loud noise.  In addition, associate may be required to perform essential duties during inclement weather.  Work duties are approximately 1% indoors; 99% outdoors which includes events and activities for club members and guests.  Activities can include, but not limited to walking, lifting up to 40 lbs.; up to 50 lbs. with assistance, stooping, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, and moving items. 

Equipment/Materials Used: 

  • Including but not limited to trencher, mini-excavator, weed whacker, wheelbarrow, Polaris farm cart, machete, shovels, hoes, pruners, hedgers, spades, sprinklers and hoses.
